My name is Rowan McDonald-Nyland, and I’m a game designer.
I’ve loved games as long as I can remember – I was lucky enough to be born in the early 90s, which gave me plenty of time to play an ungodly amount of SNES, then Nintendo 64, then PS1, and so on.
I knew fairly early that I wanted to be a game designer, and I spent a fair bit of my free time in school designing levels and small games in Valve’s Hammer Editor and in Game Maker.
I decided I’d love to do it as a career and earned my Bachelor of Game Design in 2015. During uni, I also managed to earn a couple of credits on produced titles, including working on a successful Steam greenlight campaign.
While I love all aspects of game design, I’m especially interested in writing and, for whatever reason, production and management. It might not sound as exciting (and probably isn’t for most people), but it’s something I really enjoyed on the projects I’ve worked on so far, as well as being something I’m good at (it’s a winning combo).
I plan to continue designing games until I physically can’t for whatever reason, in which case I’ll go back to playing them.
