Daily Design: Day 360

Daily Design is a series of game concepts devised daily through all of 2016. These are just basic concepts, designed based on randomly generated words. Today, they are;

Walk, Canvas and Caper.

As such, the game I’ve designed today is…

Brush with Adventure

In Brush with Adventure, players take control of a protagonist with the ability to travel inside the world of paintings – like Mario did that one time, then never again.

Each world is a 3D platformer, where players are tasked with gathering items hidden throughout the world of paintings. There are enemies to contend with, though the player has no means of combat, instead relying on their cunning and the environment to survive.

Outside of a painted world, players can actually manipulate the painting itself to influence the world within. Some of these are cosmetic – for example, they can change the colours at any time, which will alter the world. More importantly they can gather objects from other worlds that can be added to paintings; the player could find a sticker of a well in another painted world, then attach the sticker to a different painting to generate a well inside that world. These would realistically have to be limited, but I think it’s still an interesting idea.

So, yeah – it’s essentially Mario 64, only the painting thing is a major mechanic instead of just some creepy shit that Mario can do. Also it’s Christmas (hope you’re enjoying it) so cut me some slack!

That’s it! Thanks for reading. I’ll be back tomorrow with another quick game concept.
