Daily Design: Day 291
Daily Design is a series of game concepts devised daily through all of 2016. These are just basic concepts, designed based on randomly generated words. Today, they are;
Committee, Owner and Fighting.
As such, the game I’ve designed today is…
Board Brawl is a game where up to 100 players (divided into two teams) shout out orders to how two fighters should perform. It’s basically Twitch Plays in pure game form.
Each player has access to a list of traditional fighting game commands, such as different grapples, punches, kicks, dodges, blocks and so on. Each is tied to a button or key, though more complicated commands (such as throws) exist in radial menus tied to the shoulder triggers, or to different mouse buttons.
After each attack time is frozen, which is when players enter their commands. The command with the most votes is activated when time unpauses, and both teams see the consequences. The more votes the winning option has, the more powerful it is, which means that it pays to cooperate – but doing the obvious move will make it much easier for the opponet to dodge or counter.
That’s it! It’s a fairly short one and is really just how Twitch games work, but it would be good to see an entire game modelled around this idea rather than having it inserted into existing games. I’ll be back tomorrow with another quick game concept.
