Daily Design: 288
Daily Design is a series of game concepts devised daily through all of 2016. These are just basic concepts, designed based on randomly generated words. Today, they are;
Deity, Train and Backbone.
As such, the game I’ve designed today is…
God School is a game about training a series of newborn gods to watch over a newly-crafted planet.
Players take the role of their teacher, a kind of deity that exists to teach new gods their role in the universe and how to harness their powers. A new group of gods have come into existence, and it’s the players job to teach them how to wield their powers and guide a planet to fruition.
There are 6 young gods – I’ll call them Godlets, because that’s adorable – and each has a specialisation of their own. There’s the Godlet of Destruction, Creation, Fire, Water, Earth and Air. Each has their own unique qualities, strengths, weaknesses, wants and needs that must be managed.
Essentially, the player rules over a kind of god-school (the title probably gave that away) and decides which Godlet learns what on any given day, as well as answering questions and giving guidance along the way.
Most importantly, the Godlets have to be in balance. The God of Destruction is needed to keep the God of Creation from overcrowding their planet, for example, and the Gods of Fire and Water will also have occasionally clashes that need to be resolved.
I’d like to revisit this one in more detail because it’s very mechanically vague, but I’m out of time for today! I don’t know how likely it is, but I would like to come back and flesh this out more in the future.
That’s it! Thanks for reading. I’ll be back tomorrow with another quick game concept.
