Daily Design: Day 282
Daily Design is a series of game concepts devised daily through all of 2016. These are just basic concepts, designed based on randomly generated words. Today, they are;
Gathering, Passenger and Helmet.
As such, the game I’ve designed today is…
Brain Snatching 101
Brain Snatching 101 is a game about snatching brains, so the name is fine, okay?
The protagonist is a regular human being who had the misfortune of having their brain snatched by an alien brain-snatching helmet. Those with helmets are then tasked with capturing as many other humans as possible by putting helmets in them. Pretty straightforward alien invasion stuff!
The game players from an isometric view, as the player controls the first of the mind-controlled. Their job is to simply slap helmets onto other humans by running up to them and hitting them with it, like if Ape Escape had more implicit slavery themes.
“Infected” humans will then try to do the same, and it basically spreads like a zombie plague, only with helmets instead of, you know, a zombie plague.
The game is broken down into levels, and each level has a time limit to infect a set quota of humans. If the protagonist dies (by being shot or stabbed or whatever people will do to avoid being helmeted) the level is failed and must be restarted.
The player earns in-game currency by performing well, and can revisit levels to “farm” the currency if they’re awful and need it. The currency is spent on upgrades, like a gun that fires helmets, or helmet grenades. Others may upgrade the “infected” to perform better.
That’s it! Thanks for reading. I’m competing in the Epic Game Jam, so the next few posts will be shorter. I’ll be back tomorrow with another quick game concept!
