Daily Design: Day 247

Daily Design is a series of game concepts devised daily through all of 2016. These are just basic concepts, designed based on randomly generated words. Today, they are;

Staircase, Toggle and Exit.

As such, the game I’ve designed today is…

Super Fun Happy Slide

I haven’t used nearly enough Simpsons images on this blog.

Super Fun Happy Slide is a dead-simple game for mobile devices that requires nothing but a tap to play.

The protagonist is trying to climb a bunch of really, really high stairs. Tapping the screen makes them jump. That’s it (sort of)!

Players have to try and make it as far as possible without letting the screen catch up to them. The character will constantly run forward unless there’s something in the way (like the side of a stair), and the player can get over this by tapping the screen to jump. As the game progresses, the speed will increase.

The other (quite important) system at play is that the stairs will occasionally turn into a slide. If the player tries to jump while on the slide, they’ll fall backwards and lose. If they don’t try to jump, the character will continue to run up the slide as if it was a ramp.

Basically, it becomes a rhythm of jumping, but the player has to react in time when the stairs change to not jump. The frequency of the slide appearing will increase the further the character makes it.

That’s it! I’ll be back….later today, actually, with another quick game concept! I missed a day along the line somehow, so today’s the catch up. Thanks for reading!
