Daily Design: Day 230
Daily Design is a series of game concepts devised daily through all of 2016. These are just basic concepts, designed based on randomly generated words. Today, they are;
Trolley, Beer and Charge.
As such, the game I’ve designed today is…
Trolley League is a simple racing game about a group of awful drunk people that unanimously lack self restrain.
Players begin in a trolley that’s pushed by two others. The player mashes a button as quickly as they can in this period, which determines their starting push. From here, they simply steer their trolley as best they can.
The goal is simply to reach the finish line first, like in most forms of racing. The difference here is that the player is flying rapidly downhill, and has to avoid pedestrians, other trolleys, animals and cars. Hitting any results in flipping out and immediate disqualification (also massive injury or death, I guess).
While it seems like the winner will be whoever mashes the button the most at the start, the real goal is avoid hitting something. Trolleys are notoriously bad for steering (apparently), and going faster means worse handling and less time to react. The idea is to find the highest speed that you can move comfortably at and go from there.
Players earn race money that can be used to customise their trolleys. These are things like sick new rims, decals and exhaust(?), which are all cosmetic, but also make you look like a total bad ass, I swear.
That’s it! Thanks for reading. Cut it closer than ever today – I actually realised that I hadn’t done todays post while I was brushing my teeth. Sorry! They’ll go back to being earlier from here on. I’ll be back (earlier) tomorrow with another quick game concept.
