Daily Design: Day 226

Daily Design is a series of game concepts devised daily through all of 2016. These are just basic concepts, designed based on randomly generated words. Today, they are;

Fishing, Electric and Speeding.

As such, the game I’ve designed today is…



Bombaistic is a game about fishing for the extremely impatient.

Players have the simple goal of catching as many fish as possible, with the unfortunate handicap that they only have ten seconds to do it in. The astute among you may have realized that fishing, like writing a thesis, probably shouldn’t be done in under a minute.

Because fish are famously fickle little bastards, the idea isn’t to wait and hope you get a bite in ten seconds or less. Instead, players will throw electrical goods (such as toasters) into the lake, then speed past on their boat and collect the fish that float to the surface – or at least as many as they can.

Designed for phones, players will flick upwards on their screen to throw the toaster initially, then decide on the direction they’ll, uh, drive pilot boat travel through the river. A net on the side of the boat will gather any fish it hits, which can be sold for sweet, sweet cash.

Of course, this cash can be spent on upgrades. These range from bigger (and more) nets to better electrical items, and players can even purchase new fishing locations and boats. There are also cosmetic upgrades for the collection-addicted that aren’t already lost in No Man’s Sky.
