Daily Design: Day 219

Daily Design is a series of game concepts devised daily through all of 2016. These are just basic concepts, designed based on randomly generated words. Today, they are;

Travel, Going and Vertical.

As such, the game I’ve designed today is…



Gripped is a simple single-player game about climbing mountains.

Designed for mobiles, it’s a kind of Piano Tiles only set on a mountain. So, uh, completely different, I guess. The idea is that each tap will cause the protagonist to grab wherever you’ve tapped with the hand they didn’t just use. In other words, their hand alternates.

So, tap once and they’ll grab with their right hand; tap again, they’ll grab with their left. While anywhere on the screen can be tapped, players need to tap on hand-holds, or their character will fall. The idea is to quickly tap on alternating hand-holds to build a high score.

Ideally, the player will fall into a quick rhythm of tapping both sides of their screen in the correct positions. It’s not super exciting to read about, admittedly, but I think there’s potential for a simple and fun game.
