Daily Design: Day 199
Daily Design is a series of game concepts devised daily through all of 2016. These are just basic concepts, designed based on randomly generated words. Today, they are;
Rain, Basic and Casual.
As such, the game I’ve designed today is…
Water Stops is a game about stopping rain with an umbrella. That’s it, really. The words were “rain”, “basic” and “casual”, so cut me some slack.
It’s a mobile title, and the player’s umbrella sits at the bottom of the screen. The player can move the umbrella left or right by tilting, and their (only) goal is to stop the raindrops falling from on high.
Of course, the rain drops start very slowly but will speed up as the game continues, eventually becoming extremely hard to stop in time. The player is awarded a score at the end of each attempt and their highest score is recorded and able to shared online via social media.
Because the idea is to remain basic and casual-friendly, there is no upgrade system, but new umbrellas can be unlocked by getting high scores and a score total amongst all attempts. They’re purely cosmetic differences, but still fun to collect, as well as giving slightly more dedicated players something to aim for and show off.
That’s it! Thanks for reading. I’ll be back tomorrow with another quick game concept.
