Daily Design: Day 193
Daily Design is a series of game concepts devised daily through all of 2016. These are just basic concepts, designed based on randomly generated words. Today, they are;
Penalty, Cult and Sacrifice.
As such, the game I’ve designed today is…
Penalty Kill is set in a world where soccer has become a brutal blood sport, making it a lot more interesting than traditional soccer.
While the game largely works like traditional soccer, there’s a key difference in that the ball will instantly kill anybody if it hits something other than their feet (excluding the goal keeper, because that would be a very strange rule).
Players wear special boots (and keepers have gloves) that let them touch the ball safely. If the ball touches them otherwise it will cause a bomb embedded in their bodies to detonate, killing them instantly as well as sending the ball flying and knocking down anybody unfortunate enough to be nearby.
Killing a player is obviously a serious offence, so the team that the deceased belonged to gets a free penalty kick. Here it’s extraordinarily easy to kill an enemy player with a kick, and if that happens the other team gets a penalty kick of their own. This will continue until a player isn’t killed.
So, it’s traditional soccer, only it often leads to martyring, which is a sentence I never thought I’d type. Games will play on like any traditional soccer game until a player is killed, and teams can continue to play even if they only have a single player left (though they can also forfeit at any time).
That’s it! Thanks for reading. I’ll be back tomorrow with another quick game concept.
