Daily Design: Day 188
Daily Design is a series of game concepts devised daily through all of 2016. These are just basic concepts, designed based on randomly generated words. Today, they are;
Look, Star and Reform.
As such, the game I’ve designed today is…
Constellation Discombobulation is a puzzle game designed for a single player. In the game, someone’s gone and displaced most of the universe, leaving the player to fix it for them.
That is, the stars have been literally moved around, and the player has to gather them and place them where they belong. It’s essential “connect the dots” in reverse. At the outset of each level the player is presented with an image that they have to recreate. This is done by placing down “Stars”, of which the player is given a set amount. When one is placed, it draws a straight line between itself and the previously placed star.
The goal is to draw the image by placing all of the stars for any given level. It’s a lot harder than it may sound – players have to make sure that they don’t “trap” themselves by ending up in a spot where they can’t place another star without ruining the image. It’s about figuring out a single route through the constellation, then recreating it as cleanly as possible.
That’s it! Thanks for reading. I’ll be back tomorrow with another quick game concept.
