Daily Design: Day 167

Daily Design is a series of game concepts devised daily through all of 2016. These are just basic concepts, designed based on randomly generated words. Today, they are; 

Fall, Winning and Sight.

As such, the game I’ve designed today is…

Fall Guys

Fall Guys is a multiplayer racing game for VR, in which players race to the bottom of an area via falling.

The game is controlled entirely by the VR headset, where looking in a direction will move the player in that same direction. So, if you look left, you’ll begin to move in that direction. The only caveat here is that the character is always falling, so players can’t move back up.

The goal is to move through hoops along the way that provide speed boosts to be the first to the bottom, where they’ll, uh…Open a parachute, or land in jelly, or something. I’ve been travelling for 11 hours straight and just got home, cut me some slack.

Ideally, this system would naturally generate a catch-up mechanic, since rapidly moving players would have a harder time hitting hoops, and would begin to slow down. This gives the slightly worse players a small advantage without totally nullifying skill.
