Daily Design: Day 163
Daily Design is a series of game concepts devised daily through all of 2016. These are just basic concepts, designed based on randomly generated words. Today, they are;
Path, Escape and Stop.
As such, the game I’ve designed today is…
Speedwork is a competitive four-player racing game, in which players battle to try and win a race (and hopefully survive).
Only two of the four players are runners, and their goal is to run as fast as they can without falling off the track. All they can do is move left or right, as they begin at the bottom of the screen and race upwards across a scrolling track.
The tricky part is that this track is being built in real time by another (opposing) player. They’re trying to manipulate the track in such a way that the racer will fall off, but they can also force the runner into certain objects, which will buff or debuff the opponents.
These include items that cause the opponent path-builder to build a completely straight path for several seconds, or one that makes the runner slip as s/he moves.
The winner is declared when a runner falls off, and to ensure that this eventually happens the game pace will constantly be slowly accelerating.
That’s it! Thanks for reading. Another quick one, but I think it sounds fun. Hopefully back to normal the day after tomorrow, though it may be later.
