Daily Design: Day 156
Daily Design is a series of game concepts devised daily through all of 2016. These are just basic concepts, designed based on three randomly generated words. Today, they are;
Skip, Robot and Sudden.
As such, the game I’ve designed today is…
Jump Rope-Bot is an extremely simple game designed for phones.
In the game, the only goal is to skip for as long as possible. Tapping the screen makes the character jump, and each successful jump is worth a single point. The idea is to see how many times you can successfully jump before failing, as a single failure results in the game ending.
As time goes on and players accumulate score, the game will become slightly harder. For example, if the player manages a certain number of jumps in a row then the game will speed up. At very high levels, a second rope may be introduced. Each time a new problem is added, the score players earn per jump is doubled.
Points can be spent on cosmetic rewards, such as new characters and zones. These would remain purely cosmetic, as the mechanics of the game shouldn’t become any more complex than they are. This is designed to be a very simple (and hopefully addictive) game, played in short bursts.
That’s it! Short and sweet. I’ll be back tomorrow with another quick game concept.
