Daily Design: Day 101
Daily Design is a series of game concepts devised daily through all of 2016. These are just basic concepts, designed based on three randomly generated words. Today, they are;
Bearding, Sketch and Adviser.
As such, the game I’ve designed today is…
Drawbacks is a cooperative multiplayer game for 2 players.
One player is the Artist. The Artist is given a written/verbal description of a criminal, and has two minutes to sketch their face based on that description. They then pass this sketch to player 2, the Detective.
The Detective then has to decide, from a lineup, who the criminal is. They only have the sketch to go on, not the description. If they guess successfully then both players win-if not, then both lose.
It’s a small and simple concept, and it’s basically Pictionary meets Chinese Whispers, but it could be a lot of fun. Another idea would be to add a third player – the Witness – who actually sees the criminal and has to describe them to the Artist.
To make it a bit sillier (and probably more fun), the criminals could also not be human. You could have tentacled monsters, for example, and the descriptions could become vague enough that it’s even harder for the Artist and, in turn, the Detective.
Either way, the core idea is to turn an image into a verbal description into a different image, then convert that image back into it’s original form.
That’s it! Thanks for reading. I’ll be back tomorrow with another quick game concept.
