Daily Design: Day 85
Daily Design is a series of game concepts devised daily through all of 2016. These are just basic concepts, designed based on three randomly generated words. Today, they are;
Illustration, Match and Crop.
As such, the game I’ve designed today is…
Crop Circle is a small-scale singleplayer game, with rules that are both dead-simple and extremely hard to master.
Players control a small white circle on a black background, and their goal is simply to avoid touching any part of the white images that slowly make their way to the center of the screen (where they then disappear).
This is done by moving the circle in any direction (though the game is 2D, restraining movement along any two axes).
The focus of the game is, simply, to improve your high score. Players can track their scores against friends at any time. Scores is accumulated simply by surviving, as the game gets more difficult over time.
However, score can also be improved by “cropping”. This allows players to resize their screen to any amount, with smaller screens rewarding a higher score multiplier.
Thus, the goal is to find that sweet spot where the screen is as small as possible while still allowing you to perform well.
That’s it! Thanks for reading. I’ll be back tomorrow with another quick game concept.
