Daily Design: Day 83
Daily Design is a series of game concepts devised daily through all of 2016. These are just basic concepts, designed based on three randomly generated words. Today, they are;
Voting, All and Fit.
As such, the game I’ve designed today is…
Democritic is a multiplayer game that’s both cooperative and competitive. While there can only be one true winner, players will have to cooperate throughout the game in order to win.
The game is played with 12 players, who play basic Mario Partyesque mini-games in order to progress. During this mini-games characters can permanently die (it’s scary!) if the player fails to save them. However, players can also try to eliminate the competition.
One example is a mini-game in which players are randomly paired up and have to climb a mountain as a duo. If one falls, so does the other – however, players have the option to cut their rope at any time. This can be done to altruistically save their partner or to murder them, depending on the player’s choices.
At the end of each mini-game there’s a vote, where players can (anonymously) choose a player to be executed. This can be used to either remove the weak links – as the games get harder and require better coordination the longer the match lasts – or to eliminate players that are seen as the biggest threats.
That’s it! Another busy day, another short design. Thanks for reading! I’ll be back again tomorrow with another quick game design.
