Daily Design: Day 74

Daily Design is a series of game concepts devised daily through all of 2016. These are just basic concepts, designed based on three randomly generated words. Today, they are;

Holding, Politeness and Limiting.

As such, the game I’ve designed today is…

Bumble Door


Bumble Door is a game about opening doors for people while avoiding that awkward zone where they’re close enough for you to open the door, but far enough away that it’s a little weird.

This is a simple and fast-paced game controlled by a single button or screen-press. Pressing the button opens the door and releasing closes it. While the door is open, your points drain constantly, but letting someone through grants points.

The game is broken into levels, each taking place at a different building. Levels are ranked by difficulty, with more difficult levels having more people in more erratic patterns. Earning a certain amount of points will grant “Doors” – there are three Doors to be earned per level, and they can be used to unlock more levels.

It’s essentially a slight twist on rhythm games. The cue is purely visual, and I like the twist of losing points as long as the door is open. Good timing for the door is essential – if you open or close the door on somebody, you lose a huge amount of points.
