Daily Design: Day 18
Daily Design is a series of game concepts devised daily through all of 2016. These are just basic concepts, designed based on three randomly generated words. Today, they are;
Furious, Lizard and Demon.
As such, the game I’ve designed today is…
A Reptile Disfunction
A Reptile Disfunction is an isometric action-RPG, where players take the role of a lizard demon that nobody takes seriously (because he’s a lizard).
As such, the primary focus of A Reptile Disfunction is building your own reputation, until the other demons take you seriously. This is done via standard ARPG fair – killing monsters, collecting loot and completing quests.
The fame system is the focus, however, and the way characters react to you will differ completely as you build your fame.
This came about because of my (fond) memories of Torchlight, which is an amazing game, but has a totally superfluous “Fame” system. This suggests that your character is becoming more famous as you play and I loved the idea, but in practice it’s just another way to level up your skills, and has no bearing on your actual in-game fame.
I’d love a game that changed that around and had the world react to you differently as you became more and more famous, and thus, A Reptile Disfunction.
This is the last day of short posts, and they’ll be back to normal tomorrow night. Thanks for reading!
